December 25, 2024 – Samsung Electronics is reportedly planning to reduce the shipment volume of its foldable smartphones next year, indicating a cooling market for such devices, according to AndroidAuthority.
The Mobile Experience (MX) division of Samsung Electronics has established shipment targets for its high average selling price (ASP) flagship models in the coming year. Specifically, the upcoming Galaxy S25 series, expected to be released in the first half of the year, has a targeted shipment of 37.4 million units. This represents an increase of approximately 7% compared to the 35 million unit target set for the Galaxy S24 series. When including the newly added Galaxy S25 Slim, which has a targeted shipment of 3 million units, the total shipment goal climbs to 40.4 million units.
However, Samsung appears to be adopting a more cautious approach for its foldable smartphone line. For the Galaxy Z7 series, slated for release in the latter half of the year, the company has set a shipment target of 5 million units for both the Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 models. This figure marks a significant 39% decrease from the 8.2 million unit target set for the Galaxy Z6 series, possibly reflecting a weaker-than-expected market performance of the previous line.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics continues to expand its Galaxy AI integration into mobile devices. This year, the company successfully embedded Galaxy AI technology into 200 million smartphones and tablets, indicating a strong commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence in its product offerings. As Samsung prepares for the launch of its new flagship models, the market will be watching closely to see how these strategic shifts impact the company’s bottom line.
