OLED Panel Production for iPhone 16 / Pro Series Speeds Up, Targeting Annual Output of 120 Million

August 09, 2024 – According to ETNews, Apple suppliers Samsung Display and LG Display have been mass-producing OLED panels for the upcoming iPhone 16 series since June. The production was further ramped up last month, gearing up for the September launch.

Reports indicate that Apple is anticipating a shipment of around 90 million iPhone 16 units this year, with an estimated production of about 120 million OLED panels, leaving a surplus of approximately 30%. By the end of this year, Samsung Display is expected to supply roughly 80 million OLED panels, while LG Display is projected to deliver about 43 million panels.

Previous reports have suggested that the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max will retain a similar design aesthetic to the iPhone 15 series, with slight increases in size for the Pro models. Specifically, the iPhone 16 Pro’s display is rumored to have been upgraded from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. The standard iPhone 16 models will maintain their current display sizes, with the iPhone 16 at 6.1 inches and the iPhone 16 Plus at 6.7 inches.

In terms of specifications, the Apple iPhone 16 is expected to be equipped with the new-generation A18 Bionic chip, 8GB of memory, and will feature a dedicated camera button and action button on the right side. The highly anticipated device is slated for release in September of this year.
