Apple Embarks on Small Foldable iPhone Development, Expected Launch in 2026

July 24, 2024 – According to a report by Digitimes, Apple is expected to enter the foldable phone market with the launch of its first foldable iPhone in 2026.

The report states that Apple has been developing a top-to-bottom folding smartphone since 2024, which will unfold to a size similar to the current iPhones.

Interestingly, Apple has been filing patents related to foldable products in recent years, indicating their serious intentions in this field. In 2024, the company began researching and developing foldable phones and signed a panel supply contract with Samsung Display (SDC).

Considering that Apple typically takes two years to develop new products, it is anticipated that this foldable iPhone will be released in 2026.

Additionally, an Apple executive previously revealed that the foldable iPhone is expected to be thinner and lighter than its competitors, with an internal goal of avoiding creasing issues.

Previously, Apple was granted a patent for a “flexible display cover electronic device” which incorporates a self-healing material to reduce creases and scratches, further hinting at their innovations in the foldable phone market.
