Micron’s DDR5 Memory Validation Completed, Performance Improved by Almost 49%

Micron Technology recently announced that its DDR5 server memory products for data centers have been validated on the fourth-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The company stated that through its collaboration with Lenovo, combining Micron’s DDR5 with the fourth-generation Intel Xeon Platinum 8480H processor resulted in an increase of 43% in SAP workload processing when compared to Micron DDR4 with the third-generation Intel Xeon Platinum 8380 processor.

Micron data shows that in the key jOPS (Java operations per second) benchmark test of SPECjbb, performance was improved by almost 49% compared to previous generation products. In addition to the higher memory bandwidth that DDR5 provides, the upgrade will help fully unleash the computational power of each processor, thus alleviating performance bottlenecks that may be faced in the coming years.

Micron’s DDR5 memory also features on-die error correction code (ODECC) and limited fault tolerance capabilities, which enhance the reliability of the entire data center. The ODECC feature can correct single-bit errors and detect multi-bit errors. These features make Micron’s DDR5 a memory product that is both high-performance and high-reliability in the data center field.

Micron’s validation of DDR5 memory is an important step in the development of memory technology in the data center field. DDR5 provides higher bandwidth and performance, which helps alleviate performance bottlenecks that may be faced in the future.
