February 14, 2025 – Following the success of “Cosmic Robots” being named the Best Platform Game of the Year, PlayStation has announced plans to introduce more family-friendly titles.
According to a report by VGC, Sony’s President, Yuji Hirota, mentioned during yesterday’s earnings call that the accolades recently received by the platform game, developed by Team Asobi, underscores Sony’s strategic direction to expand its family gaming portfolio.
“At the 2024 TGA Awards, our first-party title ‘Cosmic Robots’ won four major awards, including Game of the Year and Best Family Game, making it the most awarded game of the night,” said Hirota.
“Furthermore, ‘Battlezone 2’, a service-based game launched in February 2024, was recognized as the Best Ongoing Game and Best Multiplayer Game. One of our future growth areas lies in expanding our family and service-based games, and these awards demonstrate that we have taken a significant step forward in diversifying our gaming portfolio.”

“Cosmic Robots” sold 1.5 million copies within nine weeks of its release, with a significant portion of those sales coming from new gamers. In Europe, the game has become the best-selling 3D platform game in the last decade, excluding the “Super Mario” franchise.
Herman Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios, emphasized the importance of the “Cosmic Robots” IP to PlayStation’s future, stating, “Cosmic Robots holds great significance for PlayStation. ‘Astro’s Playroom’, which comes preinstalled on PlayStation 5, has already been enjoyed by millions, and this new game is a step forward from that foundation.”
“It’s remarkable that a small team could create such a massive game. Not only is it brilliant, but it has also become a part of the PlayStation culture,” concluded Hulst.
