Mercedes-Benz and BMW Joint Venture Lands in Beijing Chaoyang to Boost EV Charging Infrastructure

March 05, 2024 – Beijing Chaoyang District welcomes the official establishment of Beijing Yi’anqi New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and BMW with a 50:50 equity ratio. This significant development marks a new chapter in the collaborative efforts of these two automotive giants in the Chinese market.

On November 30, 2023, Mercedes-Benz (China) Investment Co., Ltd. and BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. announced the signing of a cooperation agreement to form a joint venture in China, aimed at operating a supercharging network in the domestic market. Leveraging their extensive experience in charging operations both globally and locally, along with their deep understanding of the new energy vehicle industry, the joint venture strives to provide seamless digital charging experiences such as plug-and-charge and online reservation services exclusively to customers of the Mercedes-Benz Group and the BMW Group.

By the end of 2026, the joint venture plans to construct at least 1,000 state-of-the-art supercharging stations with approximately 7,000 supercharging piles across China. The first batch of charging stations is scheduled to commence operations in key new energy vehicle cities in 2024, with subsequent rollouts covering other cities and regions nationwide.

Furthermore, the charging network of this joint venture will be accessible to the public, with plans to procure renewable energy electricity wherever feasible, ensuring a sustainable and luxurious charging experience for Chinese customers. This initiative aligns with the companies’ commitment to sustainability and their efforts to promote the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in China.
