March 19, 2024 – In a recent move, Google has updated the branding of its wearable device subsidiary, Fitbit, which it acquired in 2021, to Google Fitbit, replacing the previously used Fitbit by Google logo.
The new branding features only the Google Fitbit text, utilizing the Google Sans font, and has discarded the dot-shaped logo that was previously synonymous with the Fitbit brand.
The Fitbit by Google branding had been previously featured on Fitbit’s official website, promotional materials, and packaging for its range of smartwatches and fitness trackers, including the Sense 2, Versa 4, and Charge 6.
This branding update is expected to be a follow-up impact of Google’s announcement in February this year, where it revealed plans to integrate its Pixel, Nest, and Fitbit teams into a unified Devices & Services group.
As part of this reorganization, Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman, along with other Fitbit leaders, have departed from Google.
Google completed its acquisition of Fitbit in January 2021, with Park staying on as Vice President and General Manager of Fitbit. He oversaw the launch of the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 for Google, with his last public appearance being in October of last year.
