October 21, 2024 – In his recent Power On episode, Mark Gurman revealed that some Apple employees believe the company is lagging behind its competitors in artificial intelligence development by approximately two years.
According to Gurman, internal research at Apple has indicated that ChatGPT has a higher accuracy rate than Siri by about 25% and can answer approximately 30% more questions. This perception among Apple’s staff suggests that the company’s generative AI technology is more than two years behind the industry leaders.
However, Apple has a history of catching up and even surpassing its competitors after being in a similar position of lagging behind, as seen in the case of Apple Maps. The company is expected to make a similar comeback in the field of artificial intelligence.
Gurman stated that by 2026, all of Apple’s devices with screens will support Apple Intelligence. The key to Apple Intelligence lies in its powerful data processing and contextual awareness capabilities.
It has the ability to deeply understand various types of data on devices, including photos, emails, messages, and more, using this information to provide personalized intelligent services to users. For instance, when a user needs to fill in their driver’s license number, they can simply activate Siri, and Apple Intelligence can quickly find the corresponding driver’s license photo in the Photos app, automatically extract the number, and complete the form for the user, greatly improving efficiency.
In the Mail app, Apple Intelligence can automatically provide summaries for long emails, helping users quickly understand their content. Additionally, in the audio recording function, it can automatically generate text records and summaries, facilitating users to review and organize information.
According to officially released information, the Chinese version of Apple Intelligence will be launched in 2025, supporting the iPhone 16 series and iPhone 15 Pro series.
