October 11, 2024 – Nissan Motor Corporation has unveiled its ambitious plan to introduce cost-effective Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology in certain electric vehicle models starting from 2026. This marks a significant stride towards the company’s vision of a sustainable energy ecosystem.
The V2G technology will empower electric vehicle owners to utilize the power stored in their car batteries to supply electricity to their households or even sell it back to the grid. This innovative feature will debut in the UK market, followed by a rollout across other European markets.

Nissan boasts that its V2G technology can slash the annual charging costs of electric vehicles by 50%, while also reducing carbon emissions by 30% per vehicle annually. Furthermore, electric vehicles equipped with V2G technology can aid the grid in integrating more renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, and feed electricity back into the grid when needed, thereby decreasing reliance on fossil fuels.
On October 7, Nissan announced an investment agreement with ChargeScape, a joint venture established by BMW, Ford, and Honda. With over 650,000 LEAF models sold in the US, which are among the first electric vehicles capable of feeding power back into the grid, Nissan’s participation in the ChargeScape alliance holds special significance.
