October 12, 2024 – Following a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman six months ago stating that Apple had abandoned plans to release an electric vehicle, macReports has revealed that the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has revoked Apple’s autonomous vehicle testing permit.
According to the information, the DMV received confirmation from Apple on September 25, agreeing to the cancellation of the permit, which was officially revoked on September 27. This signifies the complete termination of Apple’s decade-long electric vehicle project, leaving no possibility for further advancement.
The permit had allowed Apple to test autonomous vehicles with safety drivers on any public road in California. Apple obtained the permit in 2017, and if not canceled, it would have been valid until April 30, 2025.
It is understood that Apple had previously used leased Lexus SUVs equipped with a range of sensors and cameras to test various autonomous driving technologies on the streets of California.
