February 28, 2026 – OpenAI is making steady progress towards its ambitious goal of reaching 1 billion weekly active users for ChatGPT. On February 27, the company revealed that ChatGPT now boasts 900 million weekly active users, along with over 50 million individual subscribers.
OpenAI noted that the growth in ChatGPT subscriptions has picked up significant pace since the start of the year. Both January and February are on track to set new records for the highest number of new subscribers added in a single month in the company’s history.

In addition to individual users, the business sector is also showing strong reliance on ChatGPT. Over 9 million paying enterprise customers are currently using ChatGPT for their work-related tasks.
Another notable development is the surge in the number of weekly active users for Codex. Since the beginning of the year, Codex has seen its weekly active user base more than triple, reaching 1.6 million.
OpenAI also made a major financial announcement. The company has closed a new funding round worth 110billion,withapre−investmentvaluationof730 billion. This round includes substantial investments from key players: SoftBank contributed 30billion,NVIDIAalsoputin30 billion, and Amazon invested $50 billion.
