September 29, 2025 – BMW has initiated a large-scale recall due to a potential fire hazard caused by a faulty engine starter relay. The issue stems from the possibility of corrosion in the relay, which can lead to overheating and short-circuiting, posing a significant risk of fire.

The recall has been officially announced in both the United States and Germany. In the U.S., nearly 200,000 vehicles are affected, spanning a range of models from the 2019 to 2022 model years. Additionally, 1,469 units of the 2020 to 2022 Toyota Supra, which are manufactured by BMW, are also included in this recall. Across the Atlantic in Germany, the recall impacts 136,000 vehicles. Combined, the recall numbers from these two major markets exceed 330,000 units.
BMW has issued a precautionary advisory to owners of the affected models. The company urges them to park their vehicles outdoors, away from buildings and other cars, until they can confirm that their vehicle is not part of the recall or until the necessary repairs have been made. This measure is aimed at minimizing the risk of fire-related incidents while the vehicles are stationary.
