July 2, 2025 – Yesterday, on July 1, tech outlet AppleInsider revealed that Google’s note – taking app, Keep, was removed from the Apple Watch platform on June 30, 2025.
Back in February 2019, there was news that Google Keep had made its way to the Apple Watch. However, due to the lack of essential features like watch – face complications, it never really gained much traction among users.
As time went on, Keep started to fall behind the times. At the same time, Apple was gearing up to introduce its own Notes app in watchOS 26. This new app is set to offer users a built – in alternative that works seamlessly with iOS.

Google Keep was positioned as a free utility tool, and there was no clear path for it to generate profits. Without seeing any significant returns, Google decided it was no longer worth maintaining the app on a rival’s platform.
For users, this change means they can no longer quickly access notes on their watches through Google’s ecosystem. Those who want to jot down notes on their watches will now have to switch to alternatives such as Apple’s Notes app or Microsoft’s OneNote.
Google’s habit of shutting down products is well – known. An independent tracker called “Killed by Google” currently lists over 200 products and services that have been discontinued. Recent examples include the closure of Google Podcasts in 2024, as well as Jamboard, which also ended in 2024 with its tools being integrated into Meet. Stadia was shut down in early 2023 because it failed to attract enough players.
