Tesla’s Robotaxi Set to Launch Early Testing in U.S. This Week with Autonomous Model Y on the Road

June 21, 2025 – A recent post by tech media outlet notebookcheck disclosed that Tesla has extended invitations to guests for a major event scheduled to take place in Austin on June 22. At this event, the electric vehicle giant is set to unveil the launch of its highly anticipated Robotaxi ride-sharing platform.

According to the invitation and some disclosed terms, the initial testing phase of the platform will be exclusive to invited users. The test vehicles will be autonomous Model Y cars, and the service will operate from 6 a.m. to midnight daily. However, it will be restricted to specific geofenced areas.

Tesla has already sent out invitations to numerous media professionals and influential figures in the automotive industry to participate in the early testing of the Robotaxi platform. Invited users will have the opportunity to download a dedicated Robotaxi app. This app will display fares in U.S. dollars, covering charges such as airport fees and vehicle cleaning fees.

Although the ride-hailing app lists potential airport fees, Tesla has clarified that trips to the airport will not be supported during the initial testing period.

To ensure the safety and privacy of the Robotaxi platform, Tesla has implemented a series of technological safeguards. For instance, each test vehicle will be equipped with a “safety monitor.” This employee will have the ability to control the vehicle using the brake pedal and an emergency stop button.

Moreover, Tesla has pledged to suspend services during adverse weather conditions. The company also guarantees that in-car cameras will only be activated when passengers request assistance. Meanwhile, the in-car microphones will remain operational at all times to detect the sirens of emergency vehicles. Apart from situations where users need to contact the platform’s customer service or dial 911, no audio will be transmitted to Tesla’s servers.
