Waymo Set to Launch Autonomous Taxi Services in Miami by 2026

December 9, 2024 – According to a Reuters report, Waymo, the autonomous driving subsidiary of Alphabet, disclosed on December 5th that it would be expanding its self-driving taxi service to Miami, Florida, in an effort to gain an edge in the increasingly competitive market.

Additionally, Waymo announced a partnership with Moove, an automotive financing company, which will manage Waymo’s fleet operations starting from Phoenix, Arizona. Moove will be responsible for maintaining the self-driving taxis and charging infrastructure. Currently, Waymo operates approximately 200 vehicles in Phoenix.

It has been learned that Waymo commenced testing of its robotic taxi service in Los Angeles in autumn 2023. The service was launched in March 2024 and began charging users in April.

This October, Waymo completed a $5.6 billion funding round, its largest ever, to expand its driverless taxi service across the United States.

Presently, Waymo operates a driverless taxi platform in San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. Recently, the company also reached an agreement with Uber to provide taxi services through its platform in cities like Austin and Atlanta starting next year.
