September 25, 2024 – The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee has recently passed the “AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act of 2024,” mandating that automakers must include AM (Amplitude Modulation) radio functionality in vehicles manufactured and sold in the United States.
Under this new legislation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will establish a rule requiring automobile manufacturers to retain AM radio capabilities in their vehicle designs. Furthermore, this feature must be included without any additional or separate charges.
Previously, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology publicly solicited opinions on the revision of the mandatory national standard for “In-Vehicle Wireless Radio Reception Systems,” emphasizing that such systems constitute a crucial infrastructure for ensuring that the public can swiftly and effectively receive authoritative emergency information during unexpected or critical situations.
When it comes to anti-interference capabilities, FM radio excels due to its frequency-based signal variations, making it less susceptible to noise and interference. Conversely, AM radio is relatively more vulnerable, often affected by disturbances like thunderstorms or electrical appliances, which can degrade sound quality.
However, it’s worth noting that AM radio offers a significant advantage in terms of transmission distance, capable of covering a broader area. On the other hand, FM radio has a relatively shorter transmission range, making it more suitable for local broadcasting within cities or specific regions.
