October 15, 2024 – Following the conclusion of Tesla’s “We, Rebot” conference, Alex Proyas, director of the film “I, Robot,” took to social media platform X to draw parallels between Tesla’s new products and the futuristic designs featured in his movie.
Proyas posted a series of comparative images, juxtaposing Tesla’s Optimus robot, Cybercab self-driving taxi, and Robovan autonomous van with designs from his film, commenting, “Hey, Musk, can I have my designs back?”
The director also shared the images on Instagram, asking, “Does anyone think I have a legal case here?”
Some netizens pointed out that Proyas’ film might have drawn inspiration from the 1927 movie “Metropolis,” and interestingly, Tesla’s event title seemed to be influenced by “I, Robot” itself, suggesting that both the film and Tesla’s products could have been inspired by Isaac Asimov’s original novel.
On Instagram, Proyas poked fun at Musk, writing, “Musk, comparatively speaking, your design team isn’t particularly talented. They just watched a lot of movies, including ‘I, Robot’.”
Others in the online community noted that “I, Robot” may have been inspired by “Metropolis,” a silent film classic released in 1927.
