Tesla CEO Elon Musk Plans to Announce Next Factory Location by Year’s End

May 24, 2023 – In an exclusive interview with The Wall Street Journal today, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, hinted at the company’s plans to announce the location of its next factory before the end of this year.

“We might select another site by the end of this year,” Musk revealed earlier today during the interview. Speculation has been rife for months about the global competition to secure the next manufacturing plant of this leading electric vehicle manufacturer.

When asked about his interest in establishing a factory in India, Musk replied, “Absolutely interested.”

Tesla already operates several production facilities worldwide, including one in Fremont, California, another in Austin, Texas, one in Berlin, Germany, and another in Shanghai, China. Earlier this year, Tesla also announced plans to build another production factory in Mexico, although construction has not yet commenced.

At present, there are no indications as to where the new factory will ultimately be located. However, last week, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology in India stated in an interview that Tesla’s plans to establish a manufacturing base in India were “serious.” Tesla is striving to expand its automobile production on a global scale.

Furthermore, recent meetings between Musk and government officials suggest that France is likely to be considered as a potential location for Tesla’s next factory, although the actual situation may prove to be more complex. In addition to France, Canada is also expected to be a favored choice by many.

As previously reported, the Fremont and Shanghai Gigafactories of Tesla are already producing vehicles at maximum capacity, while the Berlin and Austin factories are expanding their production scales. The company aims to achieve a production target of 1.8 million vehicles in 2023 as planned. However, Musk stated that Tesla’s capacity for this year is 2 million vehicles.
