Renault Weighs All Options as Nissan and Honda Enter Merger Talks

December 24, 2024 – Renault has announced tonight that it has been informed of the statements released by Nissan and Honda regarding the official launch of their negotiations for a potential business merger. According to Renault, these discussions are still in their infancy.

As a major shareholder in Nissan, Renault stated that it would consider all options based on the best interests of the group and its stakeholders. The Renault Group continues to pursue its strategy, rolling out projects that create value for the organization, including those already initiated within the alliance.

Previously, it was reported that Nissan, Honda, and Mitsubishi had signed a memorandum of understanding. Honda and Nissan have commenced merger talks, aiming to reach an agreement by June of next year. Mitsubishi Motors, which forms a business alliance with Nissan, is considering joining the potential merger.

Honda and Nissan plan to establish a holding company in August 2026, with negotiations expected to conclude by June 2025. Shares of both companies are anticipated to be delisted between the end of July and August 2026. Honda will appoint the president of the holding company, and most internal and external directors will be appointed by Honda.
