Insiders have revealed that the new version of the glasses, featuring the ability to showcase notifications or responses from Meta’s virtual assistant, could potentially hit the market in the latter half of 2025.

While Meta declined to comment on its smart glasses strategy, Andrew Bosworth, the Chief Technology Officer of Meta, hinted in mid-December that 2025 will be a pivotal year for Reality Labs. Reality Labs, it should be noted, is the research and development division responsible for Meta’s glasses and VR device, Quest.

Despite being in a loss-making position since its establishment in 2020, Reality Labs reported a loss of 13billioninthefirstthreequartersof2024,withonlyapproximately1 billion in revenue. Nevertheless, the sales of Ray-Ban Meta glasses have surpassed the combined sales of the previous two years since the launch of the new version in September 2023.

Although the first-generation product was relatively basic, the incorporation of display screens marks a significant step forward in Zuckerberg’s vision of augmented reality glasses – glasses that can overlay the virtual world onto our reality.
