November 24, 2023 – Recent media reports have unveiled the gaming console sales data up to October 2023, revealing intriguing trends in the industry. Sony’s PS5 has witnessed a remarkable surge, with a total of 14.36 million units sold since the beginning of the year, marking a substantial 70.5% year-on-year growth.
Contrastingly, Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S faced a dip in sales, with 412,119 units sold in October and a total of 4.61 million units sold since the start of the year, reflecting a notable 21.1% year-on-year decline. The cumulative sales figure stands at 24.33 million units.
Nintendo’s Switch, the handheld gaming console, experienced a similar decline, selling 868,471 units in October and a total of 10.89 million units since the beginning of the year, representing a 10.1% year-on-year decrease. Nevertheless, the overall sales have reached an impressive 131.25 million units.
Shifting focus to the older generation, the PS4 is estimated to have sold 19,137 units in October, bringing the year-to-date sales to 220,000 units. This indicates a 17.7% year-on-year increase, contributing to a cumulative sales figure of 117.15 million units.
In terms of market share, Sony’s PS5 commands a dominant position, boasting a 48.1% share in the console market. This far exceeds Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S, which holds a 15.4% share, and Nintendo’s Switch, with a 36.5% share in the handheld gaming console market.
