Meta to Boost AI Team and GPU Count to Over 1.3 Million by Year-End

January 25, 2025 – Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, announced on the social platform Facebook that the company aims to achieve approximately 1GW of online computing power by 2025. By the end of the year, Meta is expected to possess over 1.3 million GPUs.

According to Zuckerberg, Meta plans to invest between 60billionand65 billion in capital expenditures this year, while significantly expanding its artificial intelligence team. This represents a notable increase compared to the company’s capital spending of between 35billionand40 billion last year. It’s worth mentioning that earlier this month, Microsoft also revealed its intention to invest $80 billion in the construction of AI data centers.

Furthermore, Zuckerberg stated that Meta is constructing a $10 billion data center in Richland Parish, northeastern Louisiana. He elaborated, “Meta is building a data center exceeding 2GW, which is enormous enough to cover a considerable portion of Manhattan.” The data center, announced last December, spans 4 million square feet and is Meta’s largest data center project to date. Preliminary work has already commenced, and the construction is expected to continue until 2030.

Emphasizing the significance of the year ahead, Zuckerberg said, “This year will be pivotal for AI. It’s a massive effort that will drive our core products and business development in the coming years, unleash historic innovation potential, and solidify the United States’ leadership in the technology sector.” He added that Meta “has the capital to continue investing in the next few years.”
