Apple Offers Nearly $100 Million to Unblock iPhone 16 Sales in Indonesia

November 19, 2024 – According to Bloomberg, Apple has proposed to invest nearly $100 million in Indonesia within two years, aiming to lift the country’s ban on the sale of new iPhone models. This proposed investment marks a significant increase of almost ten times compared to previous offers.

Informed sources revealed that following Apple’s willingness to ramp up its investment, the Indonesian Industry Ministry has requested the tech giant to revise its investment plan, focusing more on smartphone research and development in the country, which requires a 40% localization rate. However, the ministry has not yet made a final decision regarding Apple’s latest proposal.

The Indonesian government stated that Apple’s current investment in the country through its developer academy amounts to only 1.5 trillion Indonesian rupiahs, falling short of its promised 1.7 trillion rupiahs.

Besides Apple, Indonesia has also banned the sale of other devices such as the Google Pixel due to similar issues of inadequate investment.
