In a pioneering move blending retail convenience with sustainable transportation, Volvo Cars and Starbucks have embarked on an innovative collaboration. This partnership marks a significant step forward in enhancing the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the United States.
Spanning a distance of approximately 2172 kilometers, a strategic route stretching from Denver to Seattle has been chosen for this initiative. Along this path, select Starbucks locations are now equipped with a network of 50 state-of-the-art DC fast charging stations. These charging points, strategically placed at an average interval of about 161 kilometers, ensure that drivers can conveniently recharge their vehicles while enjoying a coffee break.
Specifically designed to cater to the latest 2024 models of Volvo’s electric vehicles, including the XC40 and C40 Recharge models, these chargers offer an impressive charging capability. A mere 15 minutes of charging time can add approximately 177 kilometers of range, addressing one of the most significant concerns of EV owners – the anxiety related to battery life and charging availability during long trips.
In an effort to make this service as user-friendly as possible, Volvo has integrated this charging network with the ChargePoint application. This seamless integration allows Volvo EV owners to easily locate and access these charging stations. Additionally, the service is not exclusive to Volvo vehicles; EVs compatible with CCS1 or CHAdeMO charging standards can also use the ChargePoint mobile app to access these facilities.
This collaboration not only showcases Starbucks’ commitment to sustainability but also positions Volvo as a frontrunner in supporting the growing infrastructure for electric vehicles. The selected Starbucks locations in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Colorado are more than just coffee shops; they are now pivotal points in the EV charging network, symbolizing a harmonious blend of environmental consciousness and modern convenience.
