Tesla Denies Current Collaboration with Baidu on Enhancing FSD

March 14, 2025 – According to a report by Reuters yesterday, Tesla is collaborating with Baidu, which has been supplying navigation maps to Tesla since 2020, to enhance the performance of its FSD driving assistance system. However, Tesla responded to Tencent Technology, stating that there is no relevant news at the moment.

Citing informed sources, Reuters reported that Baidu has dispatched a team of mapping experts to Tesla’s Beijing office in recent weeks. This team is dedicated to integrating Baidu Map features, such as lane markings and traffic signals, with Tesla’s FSD V13 version for optimal development.

Due to restrictions between China and the United States, including bans on data exports and the prohibition of importing sufficient GPU for training purposes, Tesla faces challenges in transferring data collected in China to the US for training. Additionally, the company cannot introduce adequate GPU resources into China for local training. In January of this year, Elon Musk described this situation as a “dilemma.”

On February 25th, Tesla announced the launch of its FSD feature with full self-driving capabilities in China, similar to the one introduced in the US market. This feature, known as Autopilot automatic driving assistance for city roads, allows drivers to use the system on city streets, including guiding vehicles to exit and enter ramps, navigating intersections, recognizing traffic signals, making turns, and handling lane changes and speed variations.

However, the actual performance of this feature has received mixed reviews. Most users believe that it cannot be compared to top-tier Chinese manufacturers and is far less impressive than FSD’s performance in the US. Some have even joked that “one driver’s license isn’t enough to cover the deductions.”
