May 05, 2024 – On May 4th, news emerged that the Microsoft Start weather forecast development team had recently published a paper on the arXiv website, presenting a novel AI model capable of more accurately predicting weather conditions up to 30 days in advance.
This innovative model integrates five distinct AI models with three different deep learning frameworks, leveraging decades of historical weather data to refine its predictions.
According to Microsoft, when it comes to forecasting weather for the next week, the new AI model boasts a temperature accuracy rate that is 17% higher than the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). For predictions spanning the next four weeks, the model’s accuracy surpasses ECMWF by 4%. This breakthrough marks a significant milestone in the field of AI-based weather forecasting.
