March 21, 2024 – Despite facing stiff competition from tech giants like Apple and Samsung, Google’s Pixel phones have been steadily gaining ground in the U.S. smartphone market, according to the latest report.
IDC’s recent data reveals that Pixel phones captured a 4.6% share of the U.S. market in 2023, marking a significant jump from 3.6% in 2022 and just 1% in 2021. This impressive growth is particularly noteworthy considering the overall decline in smartphone shipments in the U.S., which fell by approximately 6.9% in 2023 due to waning demand.
What’s more, Google stands out as the only Android Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to achieve market share growth in 2023. While Apple also saw its share rise from 47.6% to 51.9%, Google managed to buck the trend and expand its foothold despite a 13.6% year-over-year decrease in shipments.
This milestone positions Google as a rising force among the top five players in the U.S. smartphone market. However, the real challenge for Google lies in taking on the dominant positions held by Apple and Samsung. Although the company has made significant progress, it still has a long way to go before it can truly compete with these two giants.
