November 26, 2024 – According to Wayne Ma from The Information, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are set to undergo “significant design changes.”
For the first time since the iPhone lineup was divided into Pro and non-Pro models, these two flagship devices will feature an aluminum frame in the Pro series. Previously, aluminum frames were typically seen on entry-level models like the iPhone SE and iPhone 16, while high-end iPhones opted for stainless steel frames (with the iPhone 15 Pro later adopting a titanium body).
The report also reveals that the back of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will sport a new half-aluminum, half-glass design. The upper half will be made of aluminum and will feature a “rectangular aluminum camera bump instead of the traditional 3D glass,” while the lower half will continue to use glass to support wireless charging. Naturally, the camera bump on the iPhone 17 Pro will be noticeably larger than its predecessors.
It’s worth noting that Apple introduced glass back panels with the iPhone 8 and iPhone X in 2017. Before that, almost all iPhones had aluminum back panels, with the exception of the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 5C.
