Apple Watch to Adopt RCC Technology for Enhanced Durability and Functionality

April 25, 2024 – According to a recent report published by DigiTimes, Apple is planning to incorporate Resin Coated Copper (RCC) material in at least one of its future Apple Watch models. RCC, also known as in Chinese, is primarily used in the manufacture of High Density Interconnection (HDI) Boards, enhancing the production of high-density small holes and fine circuits.

By utilizing RCC in the Apple Watch, Apple aims to improve the device’s durability and water resistance. However, the most significant advantage lies in the potential to create thinner logic boards, freeing up valuable space for other components. This innovation could pave the way for the integration of additional sensors or a larger battery, further enhancing the functionality of the Apple Watch.

As Apple continues to introduce health-related features to its devices, any extra space freed up within the Apple Watch becomes increasingly valuable. Rumors suggest that the next-generation Apple Watch, expected to be released later this year, may include a blood pressure sensing function. Furthermore, it has been reported that Apple is pursuing non-invasive blood glucose monitoring as a long-term project, highlighting the company’s commitment to expanding the health-monitoring capabilities of its wearable devices.
