Huang and Zuckerberg Swap Jackets, Back Open-Source AI at SIGGRAPH

July 30, 2024 – On July 29th, at the 51st SIGGRAPH conference in Denver, USA, the founders and CEOs of NVIDIA and Meta, Jen-Hsun Huang and Mark Zuckerberg respectively, engaged in an intriguing fireside chat discussing the future of artificial intelligence and simulation.

The conversation began conventionally, with Huang enthusiastically highlighting the capabilities of NVIDIA’s GPUs, while Zuckerberg talked about his vision for AI-powered chatbots. Huang also commended Meta’s open-source large models, agreeing with Zuckerberg on the importance of maintaining an open-source approach for these models.

However, the discussion took an unexpected turn towards the end. As the talk drew to a close, the two tech leaders surprised the audience by exchanging jackets. Zuckerberg presented Huang with a black leather and shearling jacket, suggesting he pair it with a necklace. In return, Huang gifted Zuckerberg a new leather jacket that he had worn for just two hours, joking that it was a gift from his wife, Lori, for this year’s SIGGRAPH. Zuckerberg joked, “This jacket is even more valuable because it’s been worn.”

Among the lighter moments, the two also touched on various interesting subjects, including Zuckerberg’s experience of raising cattle on his Hawaii ranch, his ongoing “fashion transformation” (which he described as being in its “early stages”), and an amusing anecdote from Huang about Zuckerberg’s precision in slicing tomatoes.

The dialogue concluded on a complimentary note, with Huang praising Zuckerberg’s physique, stating, “I think Mark is well-built, very muscular.” Zuckerberg reciprocated the compliment, hugging Huang and responding, “You too, brother.”
