NVIDIA CEO Admits Quantum Computing Forecast Error, Announces Collaboration with Top Institutions

March 21, 2025 – In a groundbreaking announcement made at the GTX 2025 Annual Developers Conference today, Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, revealed the company’s plans to establish a quantum computing research laboratory in Boston. This initiative will see NVIDIA collaborating with scientists from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Earlier this year, in January, Huang had predicted that “practical quantum computers are still 20 years away.” However, he admitted today that his prediction had been off the mark, stating, “This is a historic first for a company CEO to invite all guests to discuss why he was wrong.”

Huang announced the creation of the “NVIDIA Velocity Accelerated Quantum Center” (NVAQC), a quantum computing research hub that will be situated in Boston and will forge partnerships with research teams from Harvard and MIT.

It is understood that NVAQC will also collaborate with quantum computing firms such as Quantinuum, Quantum Machines, and QuEra Computing. The center is slated to commence operations later this year.

Matt Kinsella, CEO of Infleqtion, shared that his company is now capable of providing more precise computational clocks for synchronizing multiple traditional computing chips. “We are focusing on advancing commercialization in areas where quantum advantage truly exists today,” Kinsella remarked.

Notably, executives from quantum computing enterprises uniformly agree that even if quantum computers surpass NVIDIA GPUs in specific tasks such as simulating atomic interactions in the future, both technologies will coexist in the long term.

Peter Chapman, CEO of ion trap quantum computing company IonQ, echoed this sentiment: “We still use NVIDIA GPUs to design our quantum chips. The future lies in the synergistic work between classical systems and quantum computers. Investors should not write off NVIDIA’s stock.”
