February 10, 2025 – Rumors have been circulating that BMW plans to introduce its first electric M3 model in 2027. However, in a recent interview with CarExpert, Sylvia Neubauer, Vice President of Customer, Brand, and Sales at BMW M Division, confirmed that the next generation M3 will continue to be powered by a straight-six engine, maintaining consistency with the current model. Neubauer emphasized that the fuel-powered M3 will continue to exist for some time, as long as it is legally permitted.
On the 7th of the month, Neubauer stated, “We offer pure electric M Performance models in most market segments, delivering an authentic M experience without local emissions. Nevertheless, we acknowledge that there is still room for other technologies, such as hybrids or traditional internal combustion engines.”

She further assured, “Trust us, we are fully prepared for the future. I can guarantee you that the upcoming pure electric M3 will coexist with its internal combustion engine-powered counterpart. Regardless of customer demands, we have solutions for every market, as long as regulations permit.”
The new generation of fuel-powered M3 is slated for release in 2028 and may adopt a hybrid system, similar to the new M5. Meanwhile, reports indicate that the electric M3 is expected to debut in 2027, replacing the current model.
Last year, a BMW board member revealed to the media that manual transmissions have limited lifespan within the company. Consequently, it is anticipated that manual transmissions will be phased out after the current generation of M3 and M4.
