October 18, 2024 – Following the release of its macOS version, OpenAI has now introduced a desktop client for its ChatGPT application specifically tailored for Microsoft Windows users. Currently undergoing testing, this application is available for download in the Microsoft Store for paid subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu versions.

Essentially, the app is a wrapper for the web-based ChatGPT, allowing users to inquire about various AI functionalities, upload photos and documents, and access the OpenAI o1 model within a dedicated window. Additionally, it supports a quick launch via the “Alt + Space” hotkey, enhancing user convenience. However, it’s worth noting that the “Advanced Voice Mode” feature is temporarily absent from this version.
According to OpenAI, the application will be made available to all users once testing is completed, which is expected to happen later this year. This marks a significant step in expanding the accessibility and usability of ChatGPT, further solidifying its position as a leading AI-based communication platform.
