July 31, 2026 – Huawei has officially revealed the complete specifications of its new MateBook Pro S during a dedicated media briefing held on July 30, highlighting the device as the lightest laptop in the world. Weighing just 798 grams, the notebook has received official recognition for setting a new benchmark in ultra-light PC design.
The event also served as an opportunity for Huawei to review the evolution of its personal computer business. According to the company, a decade of investment has enabled it to establish a comprehensive consumer PC portfolio, spanning virtually every major product category in the market.
Huawei outlined the milestones that shaped its expansion into the PC industry. The journey began in 2016 with the introduction of the original MateBook, marking the company’s entry into the notebook segment. Four years later, Huawei broadened its lineup by launching its first desktop computer, further strengthening its presence in the consumer computing market.
In 2025, the company introduced what it described as the industry’s first mass-produced foldable PC, a move that underscored its focus on form-factor innovation. Huawei believes these successive product launches reflect its long-term strategy of accelerating the transition from traditional Windows-based PCs to devices powered by its self-developed HarmonyOS ecosystem.
Huawei executives have repeatedly emphasized that building an independent operating system has been one of the company’s most challenging initiatives. During an earlier flagship product launch, Richard Yu said Huawei chose to pursue “the difficult but right path,” arguing that HarmonyOS 5 delivers a unified software platform capable of connecting smartphones, tablets, PCs, wearables, and other smart devices through a single ecosystem.
The company also maintains that HarmonyOS 5 represents a significant breakthrough in foundational software technologies. By establishing its own operating system architecture, Huawei aims to provide a common software foundation for its expanding PC portfolio while reducing dependence on third-party operating systems and further advancing its long-term ecosystem strategy.
