These surging component prices have squeezed the already razor-thin profit margins of entry-level handsets, pushing numerous affordable models into a negative gross margin state where manufacturers lose money with every unit sold.

Device brands are trapped in an impossible trade-off. Hiking retail prices directly risks alienating price-sensitive mainstream buyers. Keeping original pricing intact forces manufacturers to slash hardware specifications, shrink profit margins or even ship devices at a consistent loss, making mid-tier product portfolios extremely difficult to sustain.

Compared to competing brands, Xiaomi holds structural advantages to weather the industry-wide cost storm. Its massive global component procurement scale locks in more stable supply chain pricing. Additionally, the firm’s accelerated push into premium flagship phones helps dilute mounting storage cost pressures across its entire product ecosystem.
