January 19, 2026 – Early this morning, Elon Musk took to the X platform to make a significant announcement. He revealed that with the completion of the AI5 chip design, Tesla is set to resume the development of its supercomputer project, Dojo 3.
In the same post, Musk also put out a “recruitment call.” He urged those interested in being part of the team developing the world’s most high – yielding chips to introduce themselves in an email. The introduction should focus on three key points about the most challenging technical problems they have ever solved.

Back in August 2025, there was news that Tesla had completely halted the Dojo supercomputer project, and its leader was also set to leave. This move was seen as Tesla’s official abandonment of its plan to develop self – designed chips for autonomous driving. Sources close to the matter said that Musk had personally ordered the closure of the project.
At that time, in response to a netizen’s comment, Musk stated that it didn’t make sense for Tesla to spread its resources and develop two completely different AI chip designs simultaneously. He emphasized that Tesla’s AI5, AI6, and subsequent chips would excel in inference and at least be quite good in training. All of Tesla’s efforts would be concentrated on these chips.
