TSMC Revealed to Massively Boost U.S. Investment with At Least Five More Chip Foundries

January 13, 2026 – According to reports from The New York Times, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is set to significantly ramp up its investment in the United States, with plans to construct additional chip – making facilities.

Sources familiar with the matter revealed that as part of the agreement, TSMC will pledge to build at least five more wafer fabs in Arizona. This move will nearly double the number of its factories in the state. However, the timeline for these investments remains unclear.

Since 2020, TSMC has already completed the construction of one factory in Arizona. A second one is currently under construction and is expected to start production in 2028. Previously, the company had committed to building four more factories in the coming years. Now, it has agreed to add at least five more to the list.

In addition, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, the newly – planned factories in Arizona will focus on producing logic chips. These are processors designed by major TSMC clients such as Nvidia and AMD, and are used in artificial intelligence (AI) and other advanced computing applications. Moreover, TSMC has also promised to build two new factories dedicated to manufacturing “packaged chips,” which are semiconductor products that provide supporting functions.
