Valve Shifts Focus: Steam Deck LCD Discontinued in U.S., OLED Takes Center Stage

December 20, 2025 – According to a recent report from tech outlet Windows Central, Valve Corporation is gradually phasing out the sale of its Steam Deck LCD handheld gaming console in the U.S. market. Going forward, consumers will only have the option to purchase the more expensive Steam Deck OLED variant.

On the official Steam Deck store page, Valve has posted the following notice:

“Attention: Production of the Steam Deck LCD 256GB model has been discontinued. Once this version is sold out, it will no longer be available. We will continue to provide long-term support for the Steam Deck OLED.”

So far, Valve has not posted this announcement on its official store pages in other regions, nor has it issued a formal statement regarding the discontinuation plan for the LCD models.

Interestingly, during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales periods, Valve offered a 20% discount on the Steam Deck LCD. At the time, few consumers suspected anything unusual, but in hindsight, it appears Valve was clearing out remaining inventory.

For context, the Steam Deck LCD was first released in 2022 with a starting price of $399. It was known for being an affordable option among PC handheld consoles, capable of running newly released AAA games from that year. The device featured an AMD Zen 2 architecture CPU paired with a custom RDNA 2 APU, a 7-inch 1280×800 display, 16GB of memory, and ran on SteamOS by default. Its battery life was approximately 2 hours.
