Qualcomm Accelerates AI Strategy: Early Completion of Alphawave Semi Acquisition Bolsters Product Portfolio

December 19, 2025 – On December 18 local time, Qualcomm made an official announcement that it had successfully wrapped up the acquisition of Alphawave IP Group plc (Alphawave Semi). This completion came approximately a quarter earlier than the originally planned schedule.

According to Qualcomm, Alphawave Semi’s prowess in high-speed wired connectivity technology is set to complement Qualcomm’s next-generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU and Qualcomm Hexagon NPU processors. The integration of the two entities will enable Qualcomm to offer a more comprehensive product lineup in the realm of AI computing and connectivity solutions, spanning across multiple high-growth markets, including data centers.

Following the acquisition, Tony Pialis, the CEO and co-founder of Alphawave Semi, will take on the role of the head of Qualcomm’s data center business.

Cristiano Amon, the President and CEO of Qualcomm, stated that Alphawave Semi’s expertise in high-speed connectivity technology will further bolster Qualcomm’s capabilities in high-performance, low-power computing and AI platforms. It will also contribute to optimizing the overall performance of next-generation AI data centers.

Tony Pialis also emphasized that joining Qualcomm marks a new chapter in Alphawave Semi’s development. The company plans to leverage its technological know-how in high-speed connectivity and custom chip design to drive innovation in data centers and the development of related infrastructure.
