Gurman: No Near – Term iPhone Production in US, Cook Confirms Long – Term Overseas Assembly

August 11, 2025 – Regarding the widely – discussed topic of whether Apple will produce iPhones in the United States, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has shared his insights.

Gurman has repeatedly stressed that, at least in the short term, it is absolutely out of the question for Apple to launch large – scale iPhone mass production in the US. From the perspectives of cost, scale, and engineering, such a move is currently impractical. Take India as an example; Apple has spent nearly a decade there and has only just managed to produce a certain proportion of iPhones.

When it comes to the most complex iPhone models in the future, such as foldable ones and the 20 – anniversary commemorative models, they are likely to be exclusively manufactured in China during the initial production phase.

At a White House meeting last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook also admitted in person that the final assembly stage of iPhone production would remain overseas for a long time. He tried to downplay this by saying it was just one part of the production process. Gurman personally believes that this situation will not change in the next decade and may even remain unchanged forever.
