Tesla Model S/X: Europe Follows China in Offering Only Stock Vehicles

July 31, 2025 – Once the shining stars of Tesla’s electric vehicle lineup, the Model S and Model X have now seemingly been relegated to the sidelines in the company’s evolving strategy. Following a similar move in China earlier this year, Tesla has just stopped allowing European customers to order custom-built versions of these two models, offering only inventory vehicles instead.

The automaker updated its European website, removing the option to place new orders for the latest Model S and Model X. Instead, buyers are now limited to purchasing from existing stock. This decision comes after Tesla halted production of right-hand-drive versions of these vehicles in 2023. Prior to this, the company had already discontinued sales of new Model S and Model X units in China in April, leaving Europe and North America as the last major markets for these models.

With the European market now out of reach for custom orders, the United States and Canada remain the primary regions where these vehicles are still available, albeit in limited form. Earlier this year, Tesla introduced minor updates to the Model S and Model X, including multi-color ambient lighting and other small tweaks. However, these changes were accompanied by price increases, drawing criticism from consumers and fueling speculation that Tesla has effectively abandoned these once-flagship models.

The decline in prominence is also reflected in sales figures. Once the focus of Tesla’s production and delivery reports, the Model S and Model X have now been lumped into the “other models” category alongside the Cybertruck and Semi. In the first half of this year, Tesla delivered just 23,275 vehicles from this category globally, a stark contrast to the nearly 700,000 Model 3 and Model Y units delivered during the same period.

As Tesla shifts its focus toward more affordable models and new technologies, the future of the Model S and Model X remains uncertain, with many questioning whether these pioneering electric vehicles have reached the end of their road.
