Gurman: No New Hardware Anticipated at WWDC25, Says Report

June 9, 2025 – According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest “Power On” newsletter released last night, Apple isn’t gearing up to unveil any ready-to-ship hardware at this year’s WWDC developer conference.

Rumors have been swirling that the new AirTag is nearing mass production. However, Gurman opines that it’s not significant enough to warrant a launch at WWDC, especially considering the event’s focus on system updates.

It’s worth noting that Apple showcased the Vision Pro headset at WWDC 2023 as a brand-new hardware category. But this year, there won’t be a similar grand reveal. From a broader perspective, WWDC has traditionally been centered around operating system updates. Hardware launches are usually scheduled for other times, unless there’s a platform-level product to showcase. Apple also seems to be steering clear of releasing half-baked devices.

In light of the backlash Apple faced last year due to the slow rollout of features in Apple Intelligence, the company is likely to prioritize software fixes and user experience refinement this year, rather than rushing to expand its platform lineup.

Among the most anticipated software updates this year, one is the expansion of the glass-inspired visual design from visionOS to other systems like iOS 26, aiming for a more cohesive look across Apple’s ecosystem. Another significant change is the overhaul of the version numbering system, designed to eliminate confusion for users when it comes to future upgrades.

Apple Intelligence will once again be in the spotlight. But given the slow progress since its launch last year, there are rumors suggesting that the updates to its features this year will be more modest than initially anticipated.
