June 6, 2025 – A recent post by tech media outlet MacRumors has stirred up discussions regarding Apple’s potential move in the smart home arena. The report suggests that Apple might have filed trademark applications for “homeOS” in various parts of the world through a shell company named Home Operations Suite LLC.
This shell company, Home Operations Suite LLC, first submitted a priority application in Liechtenstein back in October 2024. Following that, it continued its efforts in April of this year, filing for the “homeOS” trademark in the United States, Argentina, Peru, and other locations. As of now, the trademark has been successfully registered in Liechtenstein, while applications in other regions are still pending approval.

Although there’s no direct confirmation of the link between Apple and Home Operations Suite LLC, historical patterns indicate that Apple frequently employs similar anonymous limited liability companies to safeguard the intellectual property of its unreleased products. For instance, in May 2023, Apple utilized a shell company to apply for the “visionOS” trademark, and just a month later, it unveiled the Vision Pro headset along with its corresponding system.
The term “homeOS” has made several appearances in Apple’s job postings and within the tvOS 17.4 code. According to MacRumors, homeOS could potentially serve as the software platform for Apple’s smart home hub. It’s speculated that this platform might be integrated into a rumored HomePod device featuring a screen. This device is said to come with a square – shaped display akin to an iPad, and it can be connected to a speaker base or mounted on a wall.
