March 18, 2025 – Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced the establishment of a brand-new first-party studio, Dark Outlaw Games, led by Jason Blundell, a veteran developer known for his work on the Call of Duty series.
The revelation about the studio and its origins came from an interview with Jeff Gerstmann, published on Monday, featuring Blundell. According to publicly available information, Blundell boasts an impressive resume, having served as a producer on Call of Duty: Black Ops, campaign design director for Black Ops 2, game director for both the campaign and zombie mode in Black Ops 3, and director and producer for the professional and zombie modes in Black Ops 4.

Dark Outlaw Games’ inaugural project is shrouded in secrecy, with the studio confirming that it is developing a real-time service-based multiplayer game. The team is currently in the process of expanding its development staff for this unannounced venture. Job listings indicate that the project is still in the early stages of development.
As SIE’s first new first-party studio in nearly five years, Dark Outlaw Games is receiving significant resource support from the company.
