June 04, 2024 – Remember the iconic “I’m a Mac” and “I’m a PC” ad campaigns by Apple in the late 2000s? These ads were hugely successful and have inspired many competitors to emulate their style over the years. Now, Qualcomm has jumped on the bandwagon, featuring Justin Long, the star of the original “I’m a Mac” ads, in a new promotional video.
The playful short, which was unveiled at the end of Qualcomm’s keynote address at Computex, showcases the first Copilot+ laptops powered by the Snapdragon X (Elite or Plus) chips. In the video, Long, still dressed casually and using a MacBook, is bombarded with constant notifications. However, this time, he’s frustrated by the interruptions, which Copilot AI can help manage. Copilot can mute notifications when the user is busy or respond to messages via voice commands.

While Apple has designed a powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU), unlike Qualcomm, it currently lacks a ready-to-use AI model. Qualcomm, on the other hand, is collaborating with Microsoft on the Windows on ARM project. Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly partnering with OpenAI, whose technology is being utilized by Microsoft for its Copilot feature. Microsoft, a major investor in OpenAI, is clearly leading the charge in integrating AI into its products.
The race is on to see which company can most effectively harness the power of AI in their devices, and it’s shaping up to be an exciting competition. Stay tuned to see how these tech giants continue to innovate and transform the way we interact with technology.
