January 4, 2025 – Samsung Electronics has unveiled plans to equip its 2025 range of new televisions and soundbars with an innovative 3D audio technology called Eclipsa Audio. This technology, developed in collaboration with Google, will be featured across the brand’s Crystal UHD and Neo QLED 8K TV series.
Moreover, Samsung has announced a partnership with Google and the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) of Korea to launch a certification program for devices utilizing Eclipsa Audio technology. This certification aims to ensure the quality and compatibility of devices using this new audio standard.
The new Eclipsa Audio technology is positioned as a competitor to Dolby Atmos sound technology. YouTube has announced support for videos with Eclipsa Audio tracks from 2025, mirroring its current support for Dolby Atmos-enabled videos.
According to Samsung, Eclipsa Audio enables users to fine-tune audio elements such as sound position, intensity, and spatial reflections, creating an immersive 3D sound environment. This technology is based on the Immersive Audio Model and Format (IAMF), a three-dimensional spatial audio standard adopted by the Open Media Alliance (AOM) in October 2023. With this new standard, Samsung and Google aim to revolutionize the audio experience for television and soundbar users.
