ROHM Semiconductor Replaces CEO Amid Forecasted First Fiscal Deficit in 12 Years

January 21, 2025 – ROHM Semiconductor, a Japanese company, announced on the 17th of this month that it will be changing its leadership at the start of the 2025 fiscal year (April 1st, 2025). The current board member, Tokichi Azuma, will replace Isao Matsumoto as President and CEO, while Matsumoto will transition into the role of Executive Advisor. This move is aimed at “accelerating the construction of a solid management foundation and enhancing corporate value.”

Currently, Azuma serves as a senior managing executive officer at ROHM, responsible for quality, production, general device business, and module business. He also heads ROHM Apollo, a subsidiary of the company.

In its interim financial report for the 2024 fiscal year (April 2024 to March 2025) released last November, ROHM Semiconductor forecasted a net loss of 6 billion yen for the full fiscal year, marking its first consolidated loss since the 2012 fiscal year.

According to a report by EE Times Japan, Azuma stated during a press conference on the 17th that ROHM Semiconductor needs to undergo painful reforms to return to profitability. The company is considering factory reorganizations and has not ruled out the possibility of layoffs.

Azuma further added that although ROHM Semiconductor currently has some products that sell well, the number of unique categories has become quite scarce. The incoming CEO expressed his commitment to addressing these challenges and positioning the company for future success.
