Musk’s Neuralink to Perform Second Human Implant Surgery This Week

July 11, 2024 – In a live stream on 𝕏, Elon Musk and the Neuralink team held an “update conference”, addressing inquiries from the online audience. Musk announced that Neuralink intends to implant its device into a second human patient within approximately one week and aims to have its brain-computer interface (BCI) chips implanted in a “high single-digit” number of patients by the end of this year.

According to Neuralink’s previous plans, they had originally intended to implant chips in 10 patients this year, involving various subjects to study a range of behaviors. Notably, Neuralink’s goal is to implant its chips in thousands of human patients over the next few years.

Musk highlighted that Neuralink has the potential to enable patients to control robotic limbs with their brains, achieving even faster response times than natural brain-limb connections. Furthermore, he emphasized that Neuralink’s ultimate objective is to mitigate the civilizational risks posed by AI by establishing a symbiotic relationship between humans and digital intelligence.
