November 27, 2024 – Microsoft 365 services have experienced a widespread outage over the past 24 hours, disrupting multiple services including Outlook, Exchange, Teams, and SharePoint. According to data from Down Detector, there have been over 5,300 reports of related issues globally, with a significant concentration in cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Tampa in the United States.
Microsoft officials stated that the outage was caused by recent changes made to Exchange Online and Teams calendars, resulting in functionality issues. While the fix has been rolled out to approximately 98% of users, the restoration process has been slower than expected. As of Tuesday’s update, Microsoft reported that “normal functionality has been restored for all affected services except for Outlook on the web, where a subset of users is still impacted. We are monitoring and troubleshooting to fully restore to normal status.”
It’s worth noting that this is not the first time Microsoft has faced a large-scale service disruption recently. In September of this year, over 20,000 users were affected by issues with services such as Outlook, OneDrive, and Teams, which were linked to problems with Microsoft’s Azure platform.
