Meta and Microsoft Collaborate to Unveil Llama 2: A Next-Generation Language Model

July 19, 2023 – A recent collaboration between Meta and Microsoft has brought forth the introduction of Llama 2, Meta’s next-generation open-source language model. Llama 2 is now available for free usage in both research and commercial applications.

In their official press release, Microsoft expressed their intent behind Llama 2, aiming to assist developers and organizations in constructing generative artificial intelligence tools and experiences.

Azure customers can now easily and securely fine-tune and deploy Llama 2 models with 7B, 13B, and 70B parameters on the Azure platform. Furthermore, optimizations have been implemented to enable running Llama 2 locally on Windows machines.

By integrating Llama 2 with Azure AI, developers gain the ability to leverage the powerful tools offered by Azure AI for model training, fine-tuning, and inference, with a special emphasis on AI security features.

Microsoft believes that incorporating the Llama 2 model into Windows will propel the platform to become the ultimate destination for developers to build AI experiences tailored to their customers’ demands. This integration unleashes their potential to utilize world-class tools like Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), Windows Terminal, Microsoft Visual Studio, and VS Code for development purposes.
